Pensacola Fishing Report – Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing, Grouper, Snapper & Triggerfish | Week Ending August 16, 2026

Deep Sea / Offshore Fishing Charters Pensacola

Mother Nature jumped in again and disrupted another week of August. We did not run any deep-sea or offshore charters this week, but we found a small window that allowed us to make a five-hour scouting trip with family.

This was a dedicated slow-pitch jigging trip. There was no cut bait or live bait on the boat—everything we caught came on slow-pitch jigs.

Cobia, Jacks and Dependable Vermilion Snapper

The fishing produced several cobia, with one making the box. We also caught a number of almaco jacks and greater amberjack, along with some juvenile red snapper and the dependable vermilion snapper.

The trip gave us an opportunity to check a few areas, spend some time slow-pitch jigging and see what the Gulf was willing to give us during a short outing.

As it turned out, though, the best part of the trip had very little to do with what went into the fish box. The fish weren’t the only ones interested in what we were doing this week.

“One of the Best Days of My Life”

Captain Eric spent almost the entire trip taking care of his mom and helping his eight-year-old son, Tig, who just kept hooking up.

Tig fished for nearly five hours without wanting to stop. At one point, he looked at his dad and said:

“This is one of the best days of my life. When are we going again?”

When an eight-year-old fishes for five hours straight and still doesn’t want to quit, you know the experience is real.

Scouting trips normally give us an opportunity to check fishing areas, try different presentations and learn something that may help us on future charters. This one certainly accomplished that, but it also gave three generations of our family a day together on the Gulf that none of us will soon forget.

The cobia and other fish were a welcome bonus. Tig’s words were the real catch of the day.

Inshore Fishing Charters Pensacola

We did not run any inshore charters or inshore scouting trips this week.

As we move toward the end of summer and begin anticipating the arrival of fall, cooler air and falling water temperatures will start changing the seasonal patterns of our inshore fishery.

That is when inshore charters become something we are much more comfortable running. The cooler-weather fishery is generally far more productive for us than trying to run the same type of trip during the heat of summer.

The first real cold fronts will begin moving fish into their fall and winter patterns and should provide better opportunities for the productive inshore trips we know this area can offer.

After another hot and unsettled August week, we’re looking forward to that first real cold front.
