Mother Nature Flexes Again
Mother Nature reminded us again this week that you do not need a tropical storm or named weather event to shut down fishing in the Gulf.
We cancelled or declined four 5-hour charters and two 6-hour charters this week. We made it offshore exactly zero times.
There was no tropical system responsible for it. A persistent high-pressure weather pattern kept the winds elevated and the Gulf rough enough that conditions simply were not conducive to the type of offshore fishing we offer. When the sea conditions aren’t right, we don’t force the issue.
That made this another frustrating week with six trips that could not be serviced, but safety and providing customers with the trip they paid for remain more important than putting the boat in the Gulf simply because a charter is on the calendar.
More Rough Weather Ahead
Unfortunately, the upcoming week does not look considerably better. in the current forecast.
Based on the forecasts we’re watching, there are currently only about three days that look promising enough to give us a reasonable opportunity to get offshore. As always, we’ll continue watching the wind, seas and wave period as those days get closer. We see openings for 05Aug and 06Aug as being the best days for next week.
The Gulf can change quickly in either direction, but right now it looks like Mother Nature may have a little more flexing left to do.
Planning Around the Weather
We do our best to work around days that present weather problems. One of the best things you can do when planning a Pensacola fishing charter is book your trip early in your stay rather than on your last available day.
Booking early gives us some room to massage the schedule when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. If your original date becomes unfishable and we have availability later in your stay, we may be able to move the charter to a better weather window. Obviously, that depends on openings in both your schedule and ours, but having several days available gives us options that simply don’t exist when the charter is booked for the final part of your vacation.
And there is another advantage to fishing early: when you have a great day on the Gulf, you get to talk about it for the rest of your stay in Pensacola.

Double D Fishing Charters
Inshore Fishing Charter Pensacola
We did two scouting trips this week in Escambia Bay and the Escambia River Delta. Very few fish were caught during either trip. In other words, we did a lot of fishing but not much catching.
We worked several different areas and tried both shallow and deeper water. The first trip produced three fish, including one nice redfish. The second produced three speckled trout, a bass, a ladyfish and a croaker.
Our preference for inshore trips remains late fall after a couple of cold fronts blow in and stay for a few days, through the winter, and until we start seeing fish movement back to the south in late March.These trips can be excellent outings producing more reds and specs than at any other time of the year.
We will certainly accommodate customers who specifically want an inshore trip, but during the heat of summer our preference remains offshore fishing whenever Gulf conditions allow it.
