IMHO, the best resource to learn how to inshore fish if you are new to saltwater fishing for specs, reds and other inshore species

The benefits of the SaltStrong Fishing Club – quick take

First let me say that I have been a member of the the club since I arrived in Florida in 2020 and also that I’m not being compensated or given free anything to write my thoughts on these guys. As part of my transition from the Texas Gulf Coast and to get a leg up on what was going on locally I joined the club. They were primarily using Florida Guides as resources for their content and the brothers had set up shop in Central FL so it was a good choice to get in. It should be said for anyone reading who is outside of Florida now that the Brothers Luke and Joe and Co. cover the entire Gulf and the East Coast with their content so if you aren’t in Florida, they’ve still got you covered.

Today I use the tackle store, the weekly game plan and the forum more than any other features. My primary choice of lure from their tackle store are the 2.0 paddle tail lures. If I am fishing for trout, this is my go to lure and I fish it every way I can to get fish to bite before I switch to something else. If I need a smaller lure, I bite the head off and slide it back on the jig head. For reds, I primarily use a stick bait but the SS 2.0 will work on reds as well. If the trout hit the 2.0 and then quit, I’ll switch over to a Matrix Shad paddle tail and can usually get a follow up fish or two. I think it’s because of the difference in water displacement between the two but we’d need to confirm with the trout. I find the weekly game plan and the frum most helpful when we get into transitional patters between the seasons, especially Winter to Spring and then to confirm what I’m experiencing on the water. If it lines up, I know it’s not just me searching for that have started to transition.

The club has many other useful tools like the smart fishing spot app and skill specific classes and videos among other things which I use occasionally. It is well worth your time to give them a look especially if you are new to saltwater fishing, are new to boat ownership or have had one and just need to improve your skills or are interested in a social club for fishing.
