Offshore

We ran 2 offshore trips this week and caught Red Snapper, Bonita, Spanish Mackerel and Trigger Fish. We chased the schools of Bonita for almost 3 hours, pulled in 11 of them and spent the night cleaning, filleting and cutting into bait for use on the charters. I think they’re the most productive cut bait we use on the boat with teir really red oily meat and a nie tough skin that helps it all stay on the hook.

Inshore

We spent a morning working flats with artificial bait toward the end of the week and nearly came up empty. The water is very hot and clear so we were lucky to pull in 2 Specs, 3 Ladyfish and 1 Bluefish for the morning.

Nighttime

We did 2 nighttime runs this week in Perdido and Mary Esther. Perdido was good for Specs and Whites while Mary Esther produced Reds and Specs. Not particularly great numbers for either location but it was a consistent bite. We used Pinfish and artificials for the night. We couldn’t find anyone with shrimp.

Fly Fishing

Picked up Reds, Ladyfish and Specs on the fly on dock lights in Perdido and Mary Esther. The fly is very effective especially in the clearer waters of Destin/Fort Walton Beach and Mary Esther. The pattern we use looks like a rain minnow. We keep the Ladyfish for cut bait fishing offshore.
